ABOUT IKEOHA SCHOLARSHIP
Chief Ike Ekweremadu, CFR, served as pioneer chairman of Aninri Local Government Area, Enugu State, South East Nigeria, between 1997 and 1998. Within this period, he discovered that bureaucracy and other bottlenecks often derailed welfare programmes meant for the less-privileged and other disadvantaged
members of society; thus instead of reducing incidence of poverty and promoting social inclusion, these programmes tended to raise and dash hopes. He was even more pained by the level of insensitivity displayed by majority of public office holders in Nigeria, who saw (and still see) public office not as avenue of service to the people but as means for acquisition of wealth.
Thus, before leaving office he set the structures for the formation of a Foundation through which he could directly intervene to ameliorate the devastating effects of poverty in various communities in Nigeria and beyond. He was determined to use whatever resources he had to fight poverty, illiteracy, and ignorance. And nearly twenty years down the line, he has kept faith with his beliefs by investing huge sums of money in people, majority of whom are neither related nor known to him.

ELIGBILITY
1. Applicants must be brilliant, indigent and of good character
2. Applicants must be indigenes of Enugu State made up of Enugu West Senatorial District, Enugu North Senatorial District and Enugu East Senatorial District
3. Application for scholarship award is open to first year students in universities in Nigeria only
4.
Application for bursary award is open to students in penultimate and final year in polytechnics and universities in Nigeria
